Thanks to Steve's creativity, vision and design skills, Eric and I were able to create the perfect railing for our townhouse, commonly referred to as the diamond in the rough. (And when we say rough we mean really rough... as in any renovation is unheard of in our development and people tried to persuade Steve to let them in to see what we had done. But, Steve stood strong and held down the fort! Which I think was mostly due to the massive amount of chocolate eclairs he ingested from our corner deli...)

Nonetheless, the railings are the center focal point in our open, multi-level townhouse, so it was important to us (mostly Eric) that they be substantial in both size and structure. Steve was able to bring Eric's idea to life. Originally the posts were supposed to be 2-inch, but that wasn't "beefy" enough for my Eric. Steve worked with us to increase the size, yet maintain the artistic proportions necessary to preserve the elegance of the rail design.

As Steve came to know all to well (mostly from hearing me complain), we faced our share of frustrations during our renovation. Steve was the shining star! Throughout the project, from start to finish, Steve Morris Designs exceeded our expectations, and provided a hassle free, pleasurable experience, resulting in a railing which exceeded all our expectations, even Steve's!

A special thank you must be made on behalf of our dog Penny. Steve was able to accommodate her need for a view. By fabricating a triangular piece of tempered glass (which of course had to be tempered to protect the well being of our pampered pooch) and bracket mounting system to fit perfectly in an awkward opening under the stairs, Penny has an unobstructed view of the front door enabling her to monitor our comings and goings without ever having to leave the comfort of her over-sized pillow.

All this being said, working with Steve, was a pleasure and throughout the project he became more of a friend, then the hired help. Eric and I will surely use him when we come head to head with our next renovation.

A final piece of advice for future clients of Steve Morris Designs...if at any point Steve seems a little sluggish, simply present a chocolate eclair, and if necessary, an entire box of eclairs, and his resilience will bounce back along with his seemingly endless stream of energy.

Thank you Steve for making our railing a piece of art that we will admire for years to come!

People generally go into a renovation project with a mix of excitement and deep skepticism that their contractor is out to screw them in any way possible. Steve is unusual in that he's not really a contractor-- he's a designer/builder who does almost everything himself. But he's even more unusual in that he really cares about both the final product and that you are happy in it. He tried to save me money wherever possible, but I was hell-bent on catapulting heroically well beyond the initial budget... once you see his work, you'll want more of it too; it's really not Steve's fault.
I wish the photos above included "before" shots because they are a pretty sad state of affairs.
Steve not only did a phenomenal job on my apartment, he has put me up at his house upstate, cooked me a few meals, and generally become someone I'm glad to call my friend. (In fact I asked him to join on a trip to Iceland this summer, but he blew me off to do "work". Whoever's house you're working on, I hope they appreciate it. When the volcano erupts, you're gonna be sorry you missed out!)
I can't say enough good things about working with Steve. My neighbors saw my apartment and immediately called him for a much smaller job, which he easily accommodated... and they wound up inviting him to their summer house in Maine. I think maybe this whole "renovations" gig is just a way to drum up vacation invitations...

I could not be happier with Steve's amazing design and attention to detail. My stairs look great and in the first year of use, they have been absolutely perfect. They feel sturdy and, as everyone can see, the style is sharp and attractive.

How did you hide the fasteners ?

Either welded and then post electro plated . Probably not.

Internal screw threaded the horizontal rods into the post ?
